Suggestions for Price?

Journal Entry: Mon Apr 22, 2013, 3:37 PM

So a small clothing line from the UK wants to purchase an artwork from me to put on Tees/hoodies. I really have no clue what to charge since this is the first time somebody has asked. Any suggestions?

I'm also doing fine at home… I'm working on some dolls that were requested a while back. I'd like to finish them before I continue with Death Chicken. My art book is close to becoming a book, but not yet. I'm having site problems with lulu, so I've emailed them and waiting for a response. So until then… >n>

Anyway, I hope everyone else is doing well~! :) Sorry that I'm quiet on here.

Shouldbee Artist Interview

Journal Entry: Mon Feb 18, 2013, 5:39 PM

Hey guys! Shouldbee.com interviewed me if you'd like to check it out: [link]

Also, I'd like to thank everyone who gave me feedback on my last journal. :) I took notes from each of your comments and will be sure that whenever the next book is made, I'll include most, if not all of what you've requested.

It took about a week or two of doing nothing else than working on photoshop to put my art book together. It's going to have 112 pages. I just need to have my sister and perhaps other family members to look it over and check for errors before I attempt to publish it.
I think I'm going to use ~FreakyZi's suggestion for the book title: Delightfully Creepy and subtitle suggested by *Gallantmon: An Artbook By [Caylee Huckabay]. Thank you so much for the suggestions everyone!

Another question! Should I use a previous image of mine for the book cover or draw something new and fresh? The simpler way would be to use a previous image, but I'm still not sure. I'd like a second opinion.

Also, I put a lot of commissioned work and gifts in my art book (my favorite ones anyway)… I brought that up because I hope no one has a problem with that. I mean, if anyone drew me a gift art or if I've commissioned an artist, I wouldn't mind the drawing they drew for me was to be published in one of their future art books. But if you do have a problem with this, please say so. Now's the time.
I should probably mention that I didn't type in credits of whos character belongs to who in my book. It would take a lot of time and research to re-find everyone and type it all in, BUT, I did write a statement in the beginning of the book basically saying "all characters drawn in this book belong to someone, so don't steal please and blah blah blah" I hope that's good enough.

Art Book Title

Journal Entry: Tue Feb 5, 2013, 8:59 PM

Hey Ya'll,
So I've slacked but I'm REALLY going to try to be a bit more serious making an art book involving a lot of my artworks on dA for 2012 and the previous years.

I should tell you that I only have 2 artworks that I took progress pictures of which is a water colored image and that pillow girl figure. Those for sure will be in the book. If I do another book, I might do another watercolor picture progress, another sculpture progress, a digital picture progress and anything else you'd all like to see. You can name your requests here if you'd like and I'll make note of them making sure I include them in the next book (whenever that happens).

I think I'm going to publish it on lulu.com, in color, and I don't know if I want the book to be more than 100 pages because it can get a bit pricy.

I also have no idea what to title this art book of mine. I don't want the title to be too cheesy or too obvious if I can help it. If you could describe all the pictures in my gallery, what would you call them in a few words?

As for publishing Death Chicken… I'm still not sure what to do. I'm sort of thinking of contacting a certain publisher company but I'm hesitating.  If they accept my work, I'm sure I'll have deadlines for the rest of the story and I just hope I can make them. o__o;;; I'm so slow sometimes and it frightens me. Maybe I'm thinking too much....
I CAN DO IT!!! *radiates myself with confidence and does some jumping jacks!!!!*

Shouldbee Voting + Other

Journal Entry: Wed Jan 30, 2013, 4:13 PM

I have a few topics on here:

Comic Inbox Flooding:
First of all, I want to say sorry to all my watchers that I'm flooding your inboxes with the D.C. comic pages. All of my quiet time on here, I spent working on them, and now that I'm posting them all at once, it must drive you all bonkers... And currently, I'm only HALF way done with it. BIG chapter. Battles always make everything longer.
And I would like to thank everyone for improvement tips. :) I know I'm not a comic pro, so I so appreciate all the constructive feedback.

Concerning Comments:
You probably have noticed and I've probably said this before, but I'm getting a bit slower at replying to comments. It's hard to reply when I have so many projects that need to be worked on, but I DO read everything! Your comments are a great encouragement sometimes and they help me work harder. Thank you everyone. You guys are great. :)

Concerning Commissions:
I have one more big commission to be worked on and then I'll be open again, but I must mention that I have cut just about all options down except for sketches. I said I wasn't going to close my commissions, so I'm not, but you only get one option. I'd like to get art projects done at home, referring to my comics and drawing things for myself. Sketches are the fastest, least bothersome commissions to take on at the moment. I might open to more commission options later, but I don't have a clue when. Sorry, sorry.

Shouldbee Voting Request?:
Also, I want to mention that the Shouldbee Company liked a lot of my character designs, and asked if I'd be willing to post some on their site (they've picked them out). I said sure. So, if it's not too much of a bother, do you think you all can vote on them if you'd like to see them made into a figurine? (Again, to vote, you have to make an account and be logged in) I'm probably going to spam you with journals every time they put another character of mine up for voting.

So far 2 of them are up:

Thank you in advance! Love you all!

More Updates With Life

Journal Entry: Thu Dec 27, 2012, 1:16 PM

Ok, so now I'm FINALLY toning the D.C. comic. That means the pages will be coming soon-ish. Sorry about this taking so long. I think it has been about a year since the last chapter was posted. But hey, at least I didn't stop working on it, right? ^^;
(Boy, I really need to be faster at this comic stuff. I'm already 25 and I have many story ideas to work on! I need to get my butt in gear!)

Also, my Christmas was ok. My family celebrated it a few days early because my sister went off to Germany with her friends the next day. She'll be over there for 3 weeks (probably 2 now?).

I don't think I've mentioned anything about my work on here since I've started, but things have been going nice. I don't totally suck as a waitress, but am a bit socially awkward because I don't get out much. Also, my boss is silly and nice, which makes it comfortable to work there.

Anyway, it's been a while since I wrote a nice journal, so I thought I'd update for you all. :)

How to Anime Figure Book

Journal Entry: Tue Nov 20, 2012, 11:17 PM

Hey guys! Long time, no chat. Sorry about that, but I'm going to get right to the point for this journal.

I bought a freakin expensive book from Japan (mostly because of the shipping), later I decided I wanted to get another book from Japan and since the first book I bought was good, and I can't seem to find it anywhere else than there, I bought a few more to sell at a lower price than what I bought for it.

It's a book that teaches you the basics of how to make an Anime/Manga figure, something I've always been interested in, and since this is an art site, I thought I'd share in case you are  interested in that type of stuff as well. I put the books up on eBay, take a look: [link]

Sadly, I don't have it listed for outside countries... I didn't feel like messing with all the different shipping prices... but if you're outside the U.S. and interested in one, send me a note about it before they're all bought so I can take one down for you!

K, thanks, that's all.

Commishs open once Again

Journal Entry: Thu Sep 6, 2012, 8:42 PM

They're open only because a few asked. I decided not to announce them open even when I'm finished with all the previous commissions unless someone asks for now on. xD
I haven't needed the commission money because of my waitress job, but I don't want to fully close them because I want to give others who've wanted to commission me a chance. I know how it is when there's an artist you admire and they don't take commissions.

Also, since I don't really need the money, I'm going to change one more thing about them. I used to have it that when someone commissioned me, they'd only fill one slot when getting a few drawings from me, but now I'm going to have it that for every thing commissioned, even if it's the same person, will take up a slot. I'm still only having 5 slots available too so they'll fill up faster. Once they're full, you'll have to wait till the next time I'm finished with all of them and if someone bugs me. ;P

That's all~

Hope everyone's doing well. :)
Sorry that I've been quiet. I'm not on here often when I'm inspired frequently. I keep finding things that I want to make. It's very bad of me because I really need to focus working on comics. ^^; Thanks for those who ask about it. It gets my butt in gear.
I think the real reason why I fade away from working on them is because sometimes when I'm in a drawing roll, I feel like I'm getting lazy on the artwork, so I step away and work on something else for a moment... and then the "something else" turns into a huge project and I forget to go back to comics.
*sigh* I frustrate myself. xDDD haha~

On another topic, some of my friends take commissions as well. They are both great artists and need money for college expenses.

Thank you for the Happy Birthday wishes everyone~ ^__^ It was touching to come home from work seeing around 50 comments on my front page just to wish me a good one. :glomp: I won't reply to everyone so I decided to write a journal instead. Cheating, I know. >w>;;;
My Birthday was just like any day (like usual for the past couple of years) but I got cake and a few gifts. =P Woot!
My friend *Gallantmon made me a B.M. plushie and his war-hammer-knife. xDDD

(thanks again, love! )

Ok, so my third week went by at this new waitress job. I'm getting better, but I still make a nice amount of mistakes. ^^; Poo….

Speaking of "poo," check out this squatty potty invention: [link] It's humorous and magical. :giggle:

Help Riyoku

Journal Entry: Sat Jun 16, 2012, 7:05 PM

Hey guys!
One of my gorgeous-beautiful-lovely friends, :iconriyokusakimori:, needs to raise money for an important trip to Chicago. She has GREATLY reduced her commission pricing, so if you can, please help her out. Her commission information can be seen here: [link]

To help grab your attention to her, here are some of her works:

Thank you everyone~ :)

Thank Yous~

Journal Entry: Tue Jun 5, 2012, 7:18 PM

I just wanted to say "thank you" to everyone who replied to my last journal giving me support and some helpful advice. It gives me extra courage. I'm going to try to come up with a system to make work easier for me so hopefully everything will work out. :)

Also, sorry, it's getting harder to find the time to reply to everyone since my dad just increased my chore time around the house by an hour (it's his way of me paying him rent). It's either reply to everyone on my free time or do what I love, draw.
I do like to chat with people, so I'll do what I can every now and then, but not as much as I used to. ^^;
I love you all~ Thank you~~

Possible New Job

Journal Entry: Sun Jun 3, 2012, 10:20 PM

I say "possible" in the title because I'm not sure if I want to stay in it. I'm a little frightened of this job because I'm sort of an anti-social person. I don't think I work very well with people; I'm more of the type to scrub the floor in a back room.
My dad volunteered me to work for one of his friends (since I don't have a job) as a waitress for a small restraint and who also owns a small farm (mostly crop growing than animals). Being a waitress was one of the many last things I'd try to do for making money.
The good thing about it is that I only have to work 3 days a week, it's nearby, and everyone is super friendly.
The bad thing is I'm basically the only waitress there taking orders, helping prepare food, and cleaning… The job frightens me a bit because the girl I replaced didn't teach me what to do well and (I was trained last minute for 1 and a half days before she left), it's the first time I've used a cash register, I'm not fast enough taking orders when people are poring in wanting food, and I also mix up the orders.

I've worked there for 3 days now and have made a fair amount of mistakes. No one is mean to me about it when I mess up with their order, but I always feel so bad about it.
…I'm going to have to figure out a system…

Also, I was told by the owner of the small restaurant that all the dishes are supposed to be dipped in bleach-water after scrubbed with soap. He said it was the safety inspector's orders.
Anyway, on one of the days this girl was training me, I was watching how she washed dishes and after she washed a knife with soap, she dipped it into the bleach-water and instantly after, she started cutting a tomato with it to give to a customer. I didn't say it out loud, but I'm like, "Oh no you didn't!"
Then I saw her do something similar again, dipping an ice scooper for drinks into the bleach-water and then instantly into the ice bucket.
Mixing bleach with food and water to be served to others CANNOT be good for their health! I wonder if all restaurants do this. I'll try to be the better person and rinse the bleach off before serving anyone. :(

So yeah, as far as I can tell, I'll be working Friday-Sunday for now on unless I become a nervous wreck and quit. So that's what's new with me. :)

(Also, sorry for those who are waiting on the commission list. I've been upset with how my recent commissions have been turning out lately so I'm trying to come up with good enough images to illustrate. )

Updates

Journal Entry: Mon May 7, 2012, 1:10 PM

Hey guys, sorry that I don't post as many journals as my friends do. I feel bad because they're always so good to me keeping me informed about them… So I guess I should update.

One thing that's new is that my dad is now retired and will be around the house all day, every day forevers. o__o;; And I don't get out much (because I'm a jobless bum for those who don't know) so, fun stuff… I love him, but I hope he doesn't drive me crazy. xD;;;  haha…

Thank you for all of those who voted on my latest poll: [link]
I read all of your comments and am heart-warmed by them.
 Hugs for all of you~

About the D.C. comics, I put a little update-thing on my front page, under my ID, so you can see my status. I did it so others don't keep asking me how the Death Chicken comics are coming. I am constantly working on them, just a little slow. But I think I'm at a better pace this time than my last chapter I worked on. :) So be sure to look at that when you're feeling curious about the status.

Also on a side note, my family received a notice in the mail informing us that we have high levels of uranium in our drinking water and is now above the safe drinking level. Woo, for Fukushima fallout! (I live in California, btw, if anyone's curious)

Later Loves~

Concerning Commissions

Journal Entry: Thu Mar 22, 2012, 6:12 PM

COMMISSIONS: [link]
*EDIT: They're CLOSED once again. If you didn't get a spot, maybe next time...*

PLAGUE DOCTOR DOLLS:
I'm finally ready to make some more. Who is interested in one? They are about 13"+ tall and sold for $100+, depending detail. Each is made a bit different to keep me from being bored making them. When I'm finished making them, I'll announce when they're posted up on my etsy store. No reserves. So if you want one, save up and prepare to get one. These will be separate from my commission list since no one can claim them up front.

BUNKA DOLLS:
While I'm making the Dr. Dolls, I might as well take Bunka Doll commissions at the same time. You'll only be able to get one if you make the commission list. Read the rules about them on my commission page: [link] - CLOSED

JOUNEY DOLLS: [link]
I've been asked to make two so I'm going to ask you all if I should make anymore for sale while I'm at it. Small ones are $30, larger ones are $65. I don't have refs to show because I haven't made them before, but they will be made similar to the Doctor Dolls (soft body, hard face), and hopefully, super cute. Also, no reserves on these dolls either, first come, first serve, so be ready. I should probably ask before I start on them, is anyone interested in one of these guys as well?

POOKUM DOLLS:
I'm not ready to talk about custom Pookums just yet…

Voting help? (and other)

Journal Entry: Sun Feb 12, 2012, 10:38 PM

If you haven't already, would it be too much to ask my watchers to help me out a little and vote for my Monster T-shirt designs? ///>u</// If you'd press the "I'd wear this"- button right under the "Add to favorites"- button, it would help promote my design~! And please also fav it, if you like it, because that way more people can see my design!  Thaank you sooo much!!

I've updated each slightly a bit after I uploaded them from opinions and such, so take a relook…?

---

In other news, if anyone has tried to access my website recently, just to let you know it is down (darkskullart.com) and it's going to stay down for a while until my brother decides to get a different web-hoster. We used Go Daddy, but got off of it when we found out that it supported evil stuff like PIPPA/SOPA/ACTA.
So yeah, I'm going to have to post my commission info and all my other link-info somewhere else until we have a website again. I might post it in journals here or on a live journal. I haven't decided yet.

One more thing, I'm happy that everyone who has read the D.C. comics are enjoying them so far. :) That means so much to me~ Thank you for your support!   I wouldn't be able to do it without you guys. :)
I'm going to attempt to publish the book eventually (I found a small publisher who's interested, but we're still talking. He can't publish anything yet till around springtime because he's moving.). I'm working on the cover art at-the-moment.

I have just finished drawing the thumb-nail layouts for each page of the NEXT chapter (will be 51 pages total). Next comes drawing the actually pages and all that fun stuff. :noes: It's going to take a while, so please be patient with me. ^^;

Expressing Rage

Journal Entry: Mon Jan 2, 2012, 6:44 PM

I need to figure out how to shut down computers by remote from my own computer. My brother has been doing it SO much to my computer while I'm working on it. I feel like punching a pillow (which I do.)! This constant shutting-down-of-my-computer is probably ruining it. >8(
And no, I don't have a virus. He can deny it all he wants, but I KNOW he's doing it. I've seen him secretly open up his black box of doom on his computer to shut down my parent's computer.
We all share the same internet, see, and when he's playing online games like Half Life, and gets some lag, he goes to his black box of doom, types some sort of command keys, and shuts down our computers.
…stupid evil genius. I'll pay him back good someday if he keeps this up.

/end-rant

I feel better now. :)

Art Book Making…?

Journal Entry: Mon Dec 12, 2011, 2:55 PM

Hey everyone. So I was thinking, with some encouragement from friends, that I should put an art book together. I've never made one before but I think I'm going to try to make one through lulu.com. Well, I'd LIKE to make one, but I'm going to have to ask for permission if I could put some of my commissioner's work in it. If you say no, I understand, I won't include the work I drew for you. I have some precious characters too, that I wouldn't want published (then again, I don't show them off on the internet in the first place.).
One of the main reasons why I want to do this is because someday I'd like to get a table at AX and make my table look a little fancy. =P Hopefully I'll have the first book of Death Chicken done by then as well. xD;;;

…Would anyone be interested in an art book if I made it happen?

One more thing: I tried to get this LiveStream program to work on my computer so others can see how I color in photoshop, but the program seems to hate my computer or something. At first it said that I had no memory to run it, but when I checked, I had plenty, and then it super lagged me to death! I don't know how all my friends are able to run it with no problems. ;__; so sad! So I'm like "ok, forget this stuff" *delete*
So for those who've asked me to get an account on there, I'm sorry, it's just not going to happen right now. :(

D.C. is coming soon - again

Journal Entry: Fri Dec 9, 2011, 9:46 PM

Good news everyone! :iconohmyplz:
I FINALLY finished drawing the rest of Death chicken Chapter 5! Sorry that I take so long. :( I always get inspired doing so many things in between drawing the chapters. ^^; And when I'm inspired, I must work on that inspired project that moment, dang it!
Someday I'll get better at working on the comic chapters faster. (-probably when I start actually working with a comic company and have due dates. xD;;; … That day will be… stressful but fun. Woo~ )
Anyway, I just have to tone them in, which doesn't take very long and I can start uploading them in bunches like I have been doing. So if you're not interested in the comic, you can just uncheckmark the 'deviations' button from my dA name for… a month or two? xD;;;
Then again, I'll be working on commissions in between… so… do whatever! 8D

Also, thanks for the Secret Santa invites, but I really don't have time to do them this year. :( Maybe next time!

And PS: Whoever sent me that 3 month subscription, I wuv you bunches. :) You need lots of hugs. Seriously, thank you. I've never had to pay for my own subscription because you guys keep supplying me. @u@;;; haha… I feel spoiled...

Commish Special CLOSED

Journal Entry: Sun Nov 13, 2011, 1:26 PM

**Commissions are now CLOSED. Sorry if you didn't get a spot!**

So I got back from Arizona last night. Those 8 hour drives to and from were killer. xD Or at least, they make me really sleepy. I had fun. I went around a lot of antique malls… and spent money. ^^; Haha… I'm not going to bore you with what I got for myself, but I got some really nice deals, so I'm excited about it. >w> *squee*

Anyway, like I said I was going to do before I left, I'm now taking special commissions again. Reasons are this time is because of Christmas coming up. This is not a really big reason to do this again, so I won't have many slots open this time.

Gone for a Week

Journal Entry: Fri Nov 4, 2011, 12:17 PM

Starting tomorrow, I'm going to go on a little vacation to Arizona for about a week. I hardly get out of the house these days so my mom and dad are dragging me with them. So if anyone is going to try to contact me during that time, you won't be able to because I will not have access to the internet.
I plan to bring my last few pages I need to pencil in for the next chapter of Death Chicken (I have 10 left to do). If I'm bored as heck, I'll get those done and start toning them when I return home.

Also, either the first or second journal I type when I get home, I'm going to have another one of those COMMISSION SPECIALS (when I greatly reduce my commission price). I was thinking of discounting my small watercolors (4.5"x6") again but also for my digitally colored images this time (9.5"x6.5"). Choosing one or the other, it will cost $20 (plus shipping). I'll have 8 slots opened, so be prepared! First come, first serve!
