The Happy Earring Tree by bezzalair The Happy Earring Tree by bezzalair
I made this one a while back in my Ceramics class, but I wasn't able to take pictures of it because my teacher was holding it hostage. xD

My assignment was to make a tree of some sort and I always wanted to make a holder of some kind to mount my earrings on, so I combined the two. I give you the Happy Earring Tree. It now sits at the top of my dresser. :)

and if you cant tell, I'll explain some more. I made huge ears to rest on the trees branches. the ears have a metal mesh small enough to poke my earrings through. :3

it stands about 21 in. tall.
and yes, I did a terrible job painting it. xD I was in a rush to turn it in. it doesn't look that bad when you look at it from a distance.

Artwork is (C) to me, Caylee.
(high fire clay, wire mesh, Acrylic + metallic paint)

Hehe this is great! How did you get the mesh onto the ears? I mean it would have to be after the clay was fired

um, I glued the mesh to the back of the ears after I fired and painted them. so far, they are doing a very good job staying attatched. :O

I want it. Gimme! LOL JK. I have a regular..metal...tree..thing I got in Korea Town. I barely wear earrings though so its really just there to showcase some cheap costume jewelry. Where did you get the mesh from? I wish I had a kiln so I could try to make something like this!

I got the mesh from a hardware store in town. :)
and yeah, it would be cool to have a kiln at home... but those things are super expensive!

Did you use the metallic paint cause it looked cool? Or because you guys don't use glaze and undergalze in ceramics? XD @.@ That's wicked awesome. I never made anything that cool in ceramics :P

:iconbezzalair:

naw, we use glazes in ceramics... but the ones they offer there don't have very many colors... not that pretty either, so I decided to paint it by hand instead. next semester, I'm probably going to order some glazes for myself to play with.

and thank you! ^__^

A great take on your project brief and functional as well.
You really do have to have a great place to hold your earrings and this is just fantastic.

Congratulations on the DD
